About the author

Felbrigg - Tench - 1984My name is Nigel Hannant and was I born in Norfolk in the early 1970’s. I am not an expert angler by any means, but I reckon fishing must be in my blood. I cannot pass a stream, river or still water without longingly gazing in, wondering what lies beneath the surface, a solemn, solitary pike sitting in the margins or a shoal of roach cruising just under the surface. And as ‘deep calls to deep’ I feel inextricably drawn to the water, to drop a line and wait in eager anticipation for a bite and sit at natures feet and ponder.

I was born and raised in Norfolk, Hethersett to be precise, and lived very happily so for nearly 20 years. But after getting married I was ‘called’ to live in, and experience London life for nearly 10 years. It was a great time, and my horizons were pushed back and work saw me travel the world. During this time I never set eyes on a lake, let alone fish! But, with two kids pre-school, it was time to return to Norfolk in 2003. I am now limpet like back in Norfolk, with three kids, and settled in Wymondham.

I have worked in professional photography, digital image re-touching and now in online marketing. I currently work for BT, responsible for Online User Experience for their Global Services division.

I am not 100% sure about where this website/blog/journal/diary will go. However as I spend more time in front of my PC than actually on the bank, officially an ‘armchair angler’, I wanted to find a way to ‘carry on fishing’ even when I am not in front of the water. This seemed liked the perfect medium in which to do so!

I am a keen TV fishing viewer, and John Wilson has to be my all-time fishing hero. His infectious laugh and delight in the surroundings and fish he catches is a joy. Then there is the cheeky Matt Hayes and his faithful side-kick Mick Brown, the Batman and Robin of the angling world, who also amplify the call to be near the water once more. And, it is largely due to these programmes that I am once again returning to the banks.

So here I am, the 9th May 2008. On the verge of getting back into fishing. I am already excited and the anticipation is palpable. Deep really is calling to deep. I feel a tie into the circle of life, as my oldest turns 9 this year, and I consider taking him fishing with me as my Dad with me at a similar age. It feels likes a long time since I was last on the bank and my last recorded trip was before my youngest was born, and I cannot wait!

So, please join me as I invite you to share my Norfolk Fishing Life.
